Christmas Plates

Weeks ago Jen posted pictures of her beautiful Christmas plates she picked up second hand somewhere.  Inspired, I decided to keep my eyes open for my own set of Christmas plates and within a week I found these cute glass plates! I love the glass and the simple snowflake in the center.

There were ten plates and each one was marked for $3.99. I took one up to the front and asked the manager if she could give me a better price if I bought all ten as I had no intention of spending $39.99 on plates.
The manager said "Oh honey, I don't think they were meant to be $3.99 each. You can have all 10 for $3.99!"

I don't think they were meant to be .39 cents each, but I was thrilled, said thank you and bought them all.
And we have been enjoying our Christmas plates since.

I am definitely jealous! What a STEAL. A shop here has some just like them, but they are not .39 each. I love glassware, and have several sets. Did they come with the cups? Blaine is home, and I am loving it! We are having fun, and will be off to a gift wrap out reach this afternoon. Hopefully it won't be too cold. I am definitely coming to visit soon. Life has been way too busy here, and I have strict orders by my sweet husband to visit Blaine no less than twice a month, so hopefully I will see you soon. Computer is fixed, and it is wonderful. I am off to do a little catching up on what you have been up to. Have a blessed weekend. Jackie

P.S. Some things men just don't understand how to appreciate. I love the button wreath! I get the same response sometimes, and just have to look past them. Love the family photos, tell Judah he did a good job. Jackie

WootWoot!! YEA - so excited for you, and WAY to negotiate. Don't you just love that? Yes, I don't think they were meant to be 10 for $3.99 each, but they are the boss. I am happy when I get one for $1. :)

WHAT?!? That is incredible! What was the woman thinking??? Good for you and what guts to ask for a reduction. Where did you get them?

Being old as I am, I can see right away some HISTORY about your plates which MAY make them more special to you. Wanna hear it just in case you don't already know?

Well - - - I'm telling you anyway, when did you ever know me to be quiet and shy?

See the little ring in one corner? That was for holding a matching cup. (Were the cups still with your set?) These came as boxed sets in the 50's adn 60's and were called "snack sets." Nearly every home that did ANY entertaining had at LEAST one set of them, my mom had two. They were used when you had people over for "tea" or a luncheon, or served snacks.

I always LOVED our two sets (different pattern than yours - - - yours is an absolutely STUNNING pattern) and I wonder what ever happened to my mom's sets. Haven't seen them for years and years.

Dad is in the process of giving away all their treasures to his offspring. He had all the dishes set out like a flea market one Sunday, and come to think of it - - - those snack sets weren't there. I imagine that means they have already been given away. Sad face.
